COLYTON HISTORY WALKS

You
may be familiar with Colyton and its strange layout of streets, you may
have been lost in it – many have! You may know its old Market Square,
award winning butchers,
old style hardware store (an Aladdin’s Cave),
art galleries, tea rooms and shops.
However, you may wonder about
the age of some of its houses, the past trading wealth and the unusual
church tower, do these things have a story to tell?
YES THEY DO!
- would Colyton look like it does today if it
were not for Henry VIII?
- where did Judge Jeffries come
into its history?
- how many
Colytonians suffered at the battle of Sedgemoor and why?
-
Colyton had many public houses and inns– can you spot them now ?
- were the Romans and Saxons here?
